Area 31 Eligibility Statement

Area 31 Career Center programs are available to grade 11 and grade 12 students who attend the following Indiana high schools: Avon, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Cascade, Decatur Central, Monrovia, Mooresville, Plainfield, Speedway, and Tri-West. Home school and private school students who live within the boundaries of our sending school districts are also eligible to apply to Area 31 Career Center. Lastly, students from outside the Area 31 sending district are able to apply for seats that remain open after the Area 31 enrollment process concludes if their superintendent and Area 31 Career Center enter into a specified agreement.

Area 31 Career Programs are often at capacity, so enrollment is competitive. Enrollment applications are considered by a team of licensed administrators and counselors representing our eleven sending school districts. Students are considered for placement and prioritized for enrollment using objective data such as attendance, behaviors, credits toward diploma completion, Grade Point Average (GPA), prior course enrollments, and standardized test scores.

Please note that each Area 31 Career Center program page, found at www.area31careercenter.com/programs/, provides prerequisite requirements and Academic Standards for Success. These standards were developed using input from licensed program instructors, employer partners, postsecondary partners, and the Indiana Department of Education’s Content Area Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects. Student readiness to participate is crucial for program enjoyment and success because program pacing and assessments are aligned with the elevated standards of university partners, industry-recognized credentials, and employer expectations.

Prerequisites for admission into Area 31 Career Center programs include successfully completing English 10 and Algebra I through credit awarded. “Applied” math and English courses do not meet prerequisite requirements.

  • Students seeking enrollment into career and technical education programs who’ve not met prerequisites may pursue enrollment through either:
    • A case conference committee decision, including representation from Area 31 administration, which may include modification or alternative programming options, or
    • A sending school principal recommendation to be considered along with input from Area 31 administration and sending school personnel.

Due to academic and safety considerations in Area 31 programs, Area 31 holds the final determination of enrollment.
